Colour and grain : this product is a fumed product (ammonia treatment). The reaction on the wood which gives the darker colour is dependent on the tannin content of the wood (the more tannin the darker the result) The tannin content depends on the origin of the Oak but even trees from the same forest have a different tannin content. So a fumed product always gives you more colour variation than a stain but the tone is far warmer, highlights character and helps bring nature into your home. Flooring must be mixed well to achieve a balanced look.
Character : This product contains D & E grade with large repaired sunken and small unrepaired splits to add character to the product
Variations within grades : open , with longer rays than red oak. Occasional crotches, swirls and burls. Plain sawn boards have a plumed or flared grain appearance.

It perfectly mimics a solid wood floor, but is actually made of three or more layers of real wood with an upper layer of genuine hardwood. Its core strength comes from each layer being stacked in opposite directions, so it can be used in most areas of the home including conservatories and in conjunction with underfloor heating.
With all the aesthetics of a real wood floor, but without any of the restrictions, real wood engineered flooring is a practical design choice for any home. Choose from products available in a variety of real wood finishes. When laid, an Elka real wood engineered floor is virtually indistinguishable from a solid wood floor. This is thanks to the product’s unique structure, which includes a generous surface layer of between 6mm of real wood, making it possible for all engineered floors to be sanded and refinished. The strength of each board comes from three or more layers of wood laid in opposite directions. Elka Copper Oak features a beautifully fumed and smoked finish, achieved through an ammonia treatment that enhances the natural tannin content of the oak. Each board is 20mm thick, 189mm wide, and 1860mm long, with a robust 4mm solid oak wear layer that can be sanded and refinished over time. The multi-ply eucalyptus and poplar core delivers outstanding stability, making this floor ideal for busy households and Ireland’s changing climate.
